An illustration and video art piece, selected as winner for the REFLECTIONS competition hosted by Boijmans and Publiekewerken Rotterdam (sept 2021) and still visible in the city center of Rotterdam (Jan 2023).
The Boijmans Depot is stripped from the usually seen reflections and now features reflections based on the inside of the Depot. By creating a 3D model of the Depot new reflections are projected on it’s surface. The reflective façade is comprised of mirrored panels that usually reflect the natural area around the Depot and the Museum, while the inside features areas made from concrete, glass, metal and other cold materials.
These new reflections on the Depot bring back the dizzying feeling of seeing the structure again for the first time and give a glimpse of what the building’s futuristic architecture looks like from the inside. By researching the way humans see and are able to observe reflections, the illustration and video answer the question made by Boijmans ‘’How do you see the Depot?’’.
The video piece reflects upon the process of collecting the 1,664 mirror panels and building the Depot. From one single frame to the completed Depot.
